Hurrican Ike & Mormon Helping Hands

The last 2 weekends the men in our ward have gone down to Louisiana to help the clean up efforts in Baton Rouge and Homua. The devastation has been much worse than they expected. Brad took some photos of how the mud was left behind after the eye of the storm went through.

Sunday they delivered MRE's and water to people as well as cleaned up. They saw how people's hearts were changed towards the Mormons. In the South there is a lot of antagonism towards us because it's the Bible belt here. Many people don't think we believe in Jesus Christ. There was one particular Preacher who's heart was changed for the better after he saw that their were 1500 men and some women from our faith there to help with clean up and supplies. The area they went to was deep in the bayous and the people there had been promised help would come by FEMA,and the Red Cross and no one came. Then one of the ward Bishops down there told these people help was coming from our church and they really didn't expect it to happen. But when the supplies and help came they were deeply touched and grateful. I know the men who went felt the Spirit of the Lord as they sacrificed their time and money to go.

Brothers helping brothers...as it should be. I know the brothern from your ward felt far better giving then those who were recieving. How wonderful for them to go and give of their time and of themselves. What a great way to give!

Just when I think you're family can't be anymore perfect, the men go and do that. I'm so proud of you. Why can't we live closer?
